Week 1

Our classes officially started from 10th October with Mr Richard Cunningham (Our course and module leader) introducing the 3D Pipeline and taking quiz in order to know where the whole class stands in understanding Maya Basics. After that he went through whole quiz and explained each questions in detail so that we have better understanding of the basic UI of the software.

He talked about importance of references in creating any 3d model and suggested to use Pureref as it allows us to see multiple images at the same time which will help us in modelling.

Later we dived into understanding sub surface division, tris, quads, N gons and multi cut tool.

I’ve tried teaching myself Maya from last few months by the help of various tutorials and videos and have even tried modelling but this was the first time I heard about clearing out tris and N gons and making it to quads so that we have clear topology of the model in the end. So now whenever I practice modelling I make sure to rectify out my edges in order to have more clear topology.

On Wednesday we had support session online where Richard showed us more about edge loops and multi cut tool.
